Current mood: happy

I can't believe I haven't updated this journal in seven months… but it's been a very good seven months. The best I can remember having in a long time.

Firstly, and most importantly, I have a job. A real, grown-up job, which I suppose shouldn't be that surprising at 25, but I still feel extremely lucky that I'm actually hired and I'm actually getting paid and I actually enjoy it. I should have realized a million years ago that I was cut out to be a teacher; it would have saved a lot of money and problems, and I would probably have a teaching degree, instead of working on a temp. certificate. But I'm only a couple college classes away as it is.

I'm a special ed teacher, btw. It means a million things, but most importantly to me, it means less pressure from administration, and more freedom to work one-on-one with my students. Okay, it also means a lot more paperwork, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Secondly, I have a new apartment to go with my new job, along with a roommate. It's beautiful, but it's far away from civilization. "Civilization," in this case, being the nearest Wal-Mart. You want to go any place better, it's a half-hour trip to the highway, and on from there. But my apartment is spacious and pink, so I'm taking everything else as "worth it".

Thirdly, I have a cat. Okay, my roommate has a cat, but I feed her and get scratched by her sometimes, so I like to pretend. Also, I'm going to help pay the pet deposit on the apartment, once we admit to the complex managers that we have a cat.

Fourthly, I got a Nintendo DS lite for Christmas. AWESOME. However, it does give me low self-esteem, as I can only get to the second world on that Mario game I have, and I overheard one of my students talking about her new DS, and how awesome she is on her new Mario game, and I really, really wish I was making this story up. I also wish I had more games. Animal Crossing next, I think, because I heard that was a fun game.

So to sum up: awesome and happy and Nintendo DS.

Fanishly, I'm still into most of the ones I usually am, though of course I have less time to read and watch: Stargate, Harry Potter, Star Wars/EU, and lately Heroes, and General Hospital, which, with all of it's rumors and spumors, and ongoing cast-turnovers, has probably given me more grief than any other fandom so far, as well as notably less fic. But I cannot fight the lure of so much brand-new canon per week, no off-season. God bless soap operas.

Also, to my flist: Seriously? Is SPN really that good? Because you all seemed to have moved onto it, and I have the feeling I'm going to have to pick it up if I want my fic-fix.

*grin* So glad you've found what you want to do - good luck for the future :)

Secondly, er, well... Hmm, I've only brushed passed Grey's Anatomy, SPN, Veronica Mars and Torchwood.

Veronica Mars wins hands down in terms of actual quality of writing and tightness of plot/sense/characterisations/etc.

SPN/Torchwood are pretty much on a par, I think. They're silly, fun, with a reasonable mix of hit and miss when it comes to writing and continuity. In boths cases, though, what makes it is fandom. If you get into it, there are fantastic writers out there who make you re-evaluate what you've just watched. Oh, and they've both got a very pretty cast. Better quality but in the same genre is Doctor Who.

Grey's Anatomy, can't really say. Just watched one ep and got annoyed by Grey and haven't watched more than one ep since.

Enjoy your new Nintendo! :)

I don't have to know anything about Doctor Who to get Torchwood, do I? I've never even seen an episode.

I agree with you about Veronica Mars, I have seen a couple episodes of that, but I never wanted to get into it, since it always seems like it's on the cusp of cancellation.
